Thanksgiving Dinner November 25, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — Amy @ 3:28 pm

So this will be my very first time cooking Thanksgiving dinner on my own. I am kind of nervous about it but since it is just Sean and I if I mess it up it won’t be in front of anyone else! HAHA. Sean is having 2 molars removed on Wenesday so I am not even sure if he will feel up to eating but I am going to make it anyway. Leftovers are always yummy anyway right?

Here is our planned menu for dinner:

Turkey, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, Rolls, Green Bean Cassarole, Veggies and Pumpkin Roll. I don’t think I am forgetting anything. Neither of us are big on salads so I am not making any. I tried to pick things that we both like so that we will eat the leftovers.

I am kind of excited to be able to cook this dinner. My Grandma says I am becoming quite the little homemaker. I am enjoying this chance to make good home cooked meals for Sean and I and also the opportunity to bake! Wow I love baking and really get a lot of time to bake. I usually bake at least twice a week if not more.

Today I am working on making my Mom’s Pumpkin Roll and it is successfully turning out thus far! It is always a struggle to get it out of the pan and luckily it fell right out of the pan just as it is supposed to. Right now it is cooling!! I might even bake some cookies today too.

Recipes Anyone? November 16, 2008

I am starting a recipe book for myself since I am cooking so much more than I have in the past and would love any recipes that you would like to share with me. We are currently on a soup kick so I am trying all kinds of new soup recipes but am looking for all kinds of recipes especially recipes that make good leftovers and are pretty cheap to make. I have enough time in the day to make a nice dinner for Sean and I. I also have been baking a lot more too. It is nice having the time to make a nice hot meal.

I have started making a menu of sorts for shopping purposes. I try to plan out all of the meals I intend to make in a two week period (want to get it to a month) so I don’t have to make extra trips to the grocery store. I find this saves us money and time. We don’t eat out as much if I have a plan either. We may not eat exactly by the menu but it is easier to prepare meals when you already have everything in the house.

Anyway enough rambling…please if you have any recipes feel free to share them with me! Oh yeah and any advice for cooking Thanksgiving Dinner would be great too.

So as I am sure you know our household was very disappointed in the recent election results. I didn’t post immediately following the election because this baby has been kicking my butt lately and I haven’t had the energy to post. A few things I want to address before going further. A couple things were brought to my attention that I want to discuss.

1. I was told that “now is the time for us all to come together” why exactly? I don’t agree with the plans Barack Obama and the other liberals that have for our country. If I recall the last 8 years the liberals haven’t joined hands with the conservatives so why now that the liberals have gained control we as conservatives must come together with the liberals? I guess the liberals want to supress the conservative point of view…there goes our first amendment huh?

2. The some of our boys are coming home is something else I have heard. Yeah have you been under a rock??? The war in Iraq has turned around and things are going well because the Surge WORKED!!!! YES I SAID THE SURGE WAS SUCCESSFUL! Oh and by the way there are women in the military too by the way. I thought many liberal women were very much into equal rights for women? Okay anyway that is off subject. By the way Barack Obama isn’t president yet seriously he doesn’t have the power yet to pull anyone out of either war zone.

I guess those were two things I felt needed to be addressed immediately before going forward. I believe that we as conservatives need to take this time as a time to reflect and get back to our roots. I heard discussion that people believed Sarah Palin was too conservative? Isn’t that what we are Conservatives? I think that people with conservative beliefs are looking for candidates and leaders that share their beliefs and don’t try to move away from those beliefs.

Here are some people that I would love to see with some more power/control in the Republican party and maybe even run for President in 2012:

1. Sarah Palin-I love this woman and think she will be very successful if given the chance. She has a way with relating to the Ameican people.

2. Mike Huckabee-He is a great man and I think he is someone our party and our country really needs.

3. Fred Thompson- This man has great potential and has great leaderships skills. He is one of my favorites.

ETA: 4: Bobby Jindal- He has a whole lot of potential and will be a great leader for this country!

I am cheering for a Palin/Jindal ticket in the future!!!

Okay on to something else. As conservatives we need to continue to focus on our beliefs and values. We must fight for what we believe in. I don’t think that Liberals will be successful anyway, the power they have will go to their heads and cause fighting amongst eachother. Look at History it has happend before!

So I guess that is my stance, I am taking a postive look on this and believe that the conservatives will become stronger during this time. But there is no way I am going to step away from my beliefs no matter what the liberals tell me! I wasn’t raised that way.

Weekend Getaway October 13, 2008

Last weekend (October 4th) Sean and I decided to make a visit to Mt. Charleston…which is just off of Hwy 95 West of our house. It is typically about 20-30 degrees cooler there so it resembles Illinois just a little bit. We hiked a trail that was about 8,000 ft above sea level…the peak is about 11,000 ft above sea level…the trail was about 1/4 mile and lead to a pretty little waterfall. It was much cooler up there than it was at home and absolutely beautiful. We hiked about 1/2 mile total and then enjoyed driving through the mountains too. It was a great day. We made it our Scenic Drive since we were missing the Spoon River Scenic Drive back in Illinois….that we look forward to each year. I have included a few pictures that I took while on the mountain. I took about 60 pictures probably so I narrowed it down to just a few!
