Cleaning and Unpacking August 11, 2008

I am actually enjoying cleaning and unpacking! Who would have thought…I would enjoy that? I feel like I am accomplishing something by cleaning. Sean and I really love our new house and since I am not working I figure I have plenty of time to keep our house clean. I am actually becoming somewhat of a neat freak. I have always liked things organized but didn’t keep such a clean house. Well that has all changed now…you should see it. Once I find my old digital camera I will have to take some pictures and prove that I am really working to keep our house clean. Our house is really becoming a home now!

Other than cleaning I have Fox News on all day long. You all already knew I was a big time news junkie. I love watching and reading the news. Today I have really been following Russia’s invasion of Georgia. I think that this could be a really big turning point in world events. I am very interested to see what President Bush has to say about it. I doubt the U.N. Security Council will have much effect on the outcome of the war. It is truly scary to think that Russia has decieded to “flex their muscles” at least in my opinions. They are a State that really has power to wreck a lot of damage across the globe. Events like this make me wish that I was still in a Poli Sci classes because it is always interesting to hear others points of view and to study such events.

Well I have laundy to fold and the kitchen to clean!

Flash Floods…are they serious? August 7, 2008

Who would have thought Flash Floods in the Desert. Actually I totally understand how that can happen but I thought it was funny because you don’t think of rain out here. It actually has rained a tiny bit everyday this week…not much though. But it does look like it could rain here pretty hard today…I wouldn’t mind a nice rain would be relaxing.

Sean and I are going out tomorrow to buy our new couch and vacuum cleaner. I am really excited especially to get a new vacuum. We are going to get a Dyson, I know they are expensive but we have went through several vacuums and we think that spending some extra money to get something that is of better quality and will last. We have gotten a lot of recommendations and done a lot of research.

We went this morning to a briefing called Right Start which kind of introduced us to the base. It is amazing how huge this base is. There are all kinds of important people that come and visit the base all the time. It is a really nice base. The commisary is amazing…at least compared to the Rock Island Arsenal Commisary. Sean and I have been eating a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables. I have been cooking dinner every night too. We cooked on our new grill last night. Sean made hamburgers and I made green beans and corn on the cob! It was so good. Tonight I am going to make Spagetti with fresh mushrooms. We are really enjoying ourselves.

I think we are going to have a Cookout sometime soon with some of Sean’s friends from work. It will be fun. We are looking forward to having people over to our new house. It will be fun to show off the house, we both are so proud of! Next week I am going to get the rest of our things unpacked and put away. Well its dinner time!

Our Trip August 1, 2008

Well Sean’s week of leave was over before we could even think about it starting it seemed. We had a welcome home party, spent time with friends and family and packed. It was a lot of fun but crazy too. We had planned to leave on Saturday but decieded to stay an extra night in the Burg (save on hotel money). So Saturday we hung out with Larry and Joyce all day Saturday which was a lot of fun.

Then we left on Sunday morning. We didn’t get as early of  start as we had planned but we were on the road. Since the U-Haul had a trailer attached to it I didn’t drive. I figured we would wreck if I drove the monster rig! It took us 3 days to get to Vegas. We stayed in Nebraska and Colorado. The mountains are beautiful but driving through them with a U-Haul and trailer isn’t the most fun…it takes FOREVER! But we had a lot of fun and all of the animals did pretty good.

We arrived in Las Vegas Tuesday evening and goofy me found a hotel on the Strip. (I thought I recognized the name of the street as close to our house but I was WRONG). Anyway we got the car off the trailer and drove the strip the first night we were here. Man it is crazy….really not Sean and I’s thing. It is crazy down there.

Then on Wednesday morning we met our Realtor and saw our house. We LOVE it. The neighborhood is great and everything we need is within a few miles. Nellis AFB is only about 20 minutes or less from our house too. Sean will go to Nellis and get on the bus and ride out to Creech everyday.

We signed all the paperwork for our house yesterday and should be getting our keys tonight. Things work a little differently out here then back home. When you close you don’t get the keys immediately. But we have a lot of people working to get us the keys tonight. Keep saying prayers that everything works out and we get keys today.

Sean reported for work today. He left the Hotel at 5am and didn’t get to Nellis until a few minutes after 6am. He said that traffic was horrible so I will be really happy when we get in our house and he won’t have such a long commute.

Well I know this is a brief update but will update more later!
